The Baltimore Feral Cat Meetup Group
|
The Maryland SPCA, Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, and the Bethesda-based national nonprofit Alley Cat Allies have teamed up to reduce the population of stray and feral cats in Baltimore. The coalition is developing community outreach and humane education programs, and will offer low-cost spay/neuter clinics for outdoor cats. Free workshops are being offered to provide information for the public on how to help stray and feral cats in their communities. If you are interested in helping outdoor cats go to http://www.alleyc... to sign up as a volunteer! For more information, visit: Save a Cat: http://catrescue....

Our next meeting:
Helping Community Cats Workshop
Feral Cats are outdoor cats that are otherwise healthy but unsocialized to humans and therefore unadoptable as pets. These workshops will provide information on how to create a safety net for them and stop the cycle of breeding with Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) - the only recognized humane and effective method of reducing their populations. "Hi everyone! My boyfriend's apartment is a feral cat paradise! People constantly move out and abandon their cats. We feed many of them and he has even successfully adopted one as a house cat."

"I am a student and noticed a bunch of friendly strays in the Port Covington Wal-mart parking lot & I was wondering what I could do about it. Thanks for the resources!"
-
"I have seven kitties of my own, plus one feral kitty that lives in my basement after an unplanned escape. I'm interested in teaching classes at the Humane Society on how to teach others how to care for ferals properly."

"Hey! I moved to Baltimore from DC a little over a year ago. I've noticed a lot of outdoor & alley cats in & around my neighborhood (Highlandtown). I love animals but am not in a position to take any more in... I want to help whatever way I can. "
-
"I am a big animal lover and have 3 dogs and 6 cats and all of them were strays at one point. Recently I became aware of a colony in my neighborhood. The neighbor puts out milk and a few scraps of food but no where enough so I asked if I could help."
-
"Hi all! I adopted a cat a year ago from the SPCA and really would love the chance to give back. Looking forward to others who feel the same!"
-
"Hi, I live in Baltimore City and have been a feral cat caregiver for about 15 years. Right now, I manage two colonies just moments away from the Inner Harbor. MD Feline (Peggy Nemoff) and Animal Rescue were instrumental in getting me involved in TNR."
-
"Hi, I live in Canton with one feline critter. I plan to help my friends who are caring for some feral cats and want to TNR their colonies."
-
"Hi Denise - thanks for the Shout!"
-
"Hi! For years I've been involved with animal shelters, education and animal advocacy. When I moved to Baltimore I started volunteering at BARCS. I am passionate about animals, especially cats. I've been raised with a houseful of cats, too."
